OOdua Day Celebrations

It was a celebration of culture as the Yoruba Community in The Gambia celebrates another OOdua day, OOdua day celebration has become a yearly event  for the Yorubas in The Gambia, the celebration has become so popular that many had to adjust their yearly end of year travel plans and holidays.

Over the years, the celebration has become an event the Yorubas and indeed many Nigerians and non Nigerians look forward to, because of the rich cultural display, but much more, because it serves as a venue which many   Nigerians use to catch up on goings on and meet old friends and perhaps make new ones.

One of the highlights of the celebration is the award of scholarships to indigenous children, a philanthropic gesture which this community started some years ago, during this celebration, 14 scholarships were given out .

Among the dignitaries at the occasion was the Nigerian High Commissioner , Hon Esther John Audu, the Director General of West African Insurance Institute, Prof Prince Mike Ikupolati and his wife, The Lord Mayor of Kanifing, Alhaji Nuru Adams.

We applaud this initiative and call on all Nigerians to applaud the Yoruba community in The Gambia
